What is the Express Entry Program in Canada Immigration System?

This is a points-based Canadian immigration system designed to enhance the selection process involved in the Economic Immigration Program of Canada for immigrants. This program encourages application from skilled and talented immigrants to Canada. Under this program, interested applicants will create a profile online and submit it to indicate their Expression of Interest (EOI). Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) can now select the successful candidate based on their Comprehensive Ranking System score (CRS). This program is targeted at selecting skilled candidates who satisfy the demand in the Canadian labor market.

Which year was the Express Entry System Launched in Canada?

It was launched on 1st January 2015 by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)

What is a CRS score?

In full, CRS means Comprehensive Ranking System. It’s a ranking system used by the CIC to select the best-qualified candidates from the Express Entry pool for Invitation to Apply for the Canadian Permanent Residency Program. The CRS score is a summation of the points obtained from your Express Entry profile details.

Candidates who meet the requirement for Canada’s Economic Immigration programs are found in the Express Entry pool. The Federal Government, State, and Private Employers have the right to choose any eligible applicant they deem fit from this area. Candidates selected are now invited to apply for a Permanent Residency Visa.

What is EOI?

In full, EOI means Expression of Interest. It is the online application submitted by a candidate coupled with their complete profile information to the CIC. This is done to show their interest to join the Express Entry Pool. On review of their application by the CIC, they will then decide if the applicant is to be accepted or not.

Which Programs Can Express Entry Candidates be chosen from?

How much will it cost me to set up an Express Entry Profile?

Absolutely nothing! Creating an Express Entry profile is totally free.

Can my Express Entry Profile ever expire?

Yes absolutely! Your Express Entry Profile expires after 12 months of setting it up. Suffice to say, if you don’t get accepted within the next 12 months of submission, you would have to re-submit your profile again, verifying all the required information mentioned initially within 90 days. Failure to resubmit within the required 60 days’ duration, your account will now expire permanently, leading you to create a new one.

What does ITA mean?

This is an invitation to Apply for a Permanent Residency sent by the CIC to the interested applicant on approval of their request.

Factors that affect receiving ITA from CIC?

ITA is only issued to applicants that meet up with the minimum score for the Express Entry stream, and have already joined the pool of skilled candidates. Here are a few areas that can boost your chances of receiving the ITA

  • When you have received a qualified job offer from a Canadian employer and your employer’s company is LIMA approved
  • If you have the meet up with the minimal score with invitations done in Express system
  • If you have been nominated by any Canadian province or Territory
Does the Invitation to Apply (ITA) Expire?

Yes, it can only be valid for 60 days after which it will expire

What is the full meaning of LIMA

In full, it means Labour Market Impact Assessment. This is a confirmation letter that your Canadian Employer is supposed to have from the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to show proof that your Canadian job is authentic.

How long will processing the Express Entry Immigration Stream Take?

Due to various immigration processes involved, it’s targeted to take at least 6 months or more. Usually, it starts with the CIC verifying your submission of a complete online PR application and then ends with the governmental decision taken on your case. However, some factors can also cause more processing time like LIMA approval, your medical certification, etc.

What else is required in the Express Entry System?

We have listed most of the requirements. But another important requirement includes the Education Credential Assessment (ECA). This is required when submitting your Express Entry Profile. It’s needed to verify your Academic Certifications.
